Chimney Repair in Adelaide
Fineline Reporting has repaired hundreds of residential and commercial chimneys throughout South Australia. We have worked on various heritage listed properties that require repair and rehabilitation.
Due to the position of chimneys they receive the full force of wind and rain.
We will come out and inspect your chimney as each project is different.
At Fine Line Repointing we are very passionate about Adelaide homes and buisnesses that have great historical character and architectural value. Over the years, the outside elements can lead to the degradation of the stone and brickwork of these beautiful aging buildings.
Our long-standing and continuing work with historic and listed buildings, now into its fourth decade, stands testament to our position as a leading stone restorer.
We have a team of heritage stone and brick experts that can effectively restore stone and brick, while respecting and upholding the historical value of the building.
Our Services include:
Salt damp is caused by salts and minerals rising from the ground and corrodes the mortar of the structure.
Salt damp can cause structural damage if left unchecked over a period of time. Plaster and paint peels, steel and nails rust and timber rots. In addition to this, there will also be corrosion, smells and mould. These conditions also attract pests such as termites.
The best method to rid your house of salt damp is to underset it. This is where we remove the effected masonry, whether it is brick or stone, insert a plastic membrane and rebuild the walls from the foundation up to where the masonry is in good condition.
The alternative method is chemical injection. This has limitations however, typically, if the masonry is powdering, chemical injection is inadequate. Before injection, we dilute the salt content in the wall to minimize the damage done to the wall by applying a poulticing product, designed to remove salts associated with rising and lateral damp from masonry walls and sandstone.
Fine Line Repointing will inspect your house or building. We are experts in recognising signs of deterioration such as erosion, cracking or fretting. There are a number of causes that may be to blame: water ingress, direct impact and salt degradation are three of the most common causes we encounter.
In most of these cases, individual bricks will be visibly affected. However, the mortar joints between bricks or stonework may also show signs of disrepair. Where it is apparent remediation work is required, we will remove affected bricks, treat the remaining ones as required to address the impacts of salt degradation and ultimately, replace and repoint the brickwork to return the wall to its original condition.
Veneer and Cladding
Natural stone veneer is made from real stone. Fine Line Repointing will cut the stone to a consistent thickness and weight for use as a veneer. Stone cladding is a thin layer of real stone applied to a building made of a material other than stone. Stone cladding is often applied to concrete and steel buildings.
Fine Line Repointing will cut the stone cladding and veneer to size and make it fit to the panel or wall to be attached. We use top quality adhesives for durability.

With over 40 years of experience, Fineline Repointing is Adelaide's Leading Brick and Stone Repointing Specialist.
Repointing is the process of removing old or damaged mortar form the joints around the brick and stone. It is then replaced with new mortar to enhance the appearance and integrity of your house or wall. Repointing your home will not only add years to its life but increase the vaule of your property when done correctly.
Existing pointing is raked out by hand or chisel prior to the application of new mortar. This ensures that the new pointing bonds to the bricks or stones to create a durable weatherproof finish.
For all kinds of domestic, commercial, strata complex or heritage buildings – our trained craftsmen will get the job done right first time and save you from additional costs and stress in the future.
We use traditional hand pointing methods to repoint bricks and stonework. Weatherstruck, flush and V-joint are just some of the types of pointing methods used. We will advise the best style to suit the construction of the building.

Stripping paint from your house or builidng is a service that Fineline Repointing has 40 years experience in.
Paintstripping is removing the paint from your house or wall before repointing can proceed.
Paint can be removed chemically in conjunction with steam cleaning, or in some cases non chemically by hand.
The stripping of paint needs to be done carefully so no damage is done to the stone underneath.
Sand blasting should only be considered as the last resort, as it is extremly abraisive and can remove colour from the stone and cause damage.

Fine Line Repointing will help restore old stone walls to there former glory.
Pressure cleaning will bring out the natural colour and texture of the stone.
Chemical free pressure cleaning is our preffered option, but sometimes a chemical may be needed to remove staining from certin types of stone.
Pressure cleaning needs to be done gently, so the risk of damage to the stone is minimal.
It is more benifical to clean the stone before any work is done. Repointing unclean stone can make the front of your house or wall look soiled.
